Establishment of a new department for Space Research at the Astronomcal observatory

At the Astronomical Observatory in Belgrade, on September 18, 2023, the Research Unit (RU) for Space Science and Technologies was established. This unit served as the foundation for the formation of the Scientific Research Group for Space Research and Geosciences on December 29, 2023.

Goals

The main goals of the Scientific Research Group for Space Research and Geosciences are to:

  • monitor developments and trends in scientific research and the development of new technologies,

  • organize scientific and thematic meetings and conferences,

  • participate in national and international scientific research projects,

  • publish scientific papers.
This scientific research group is, for the first time in Serbia, opening a completely new field of multidisciplinary scientific research that connects mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, astronomy, and astrophysics with space research. The development of research in this domain will significantly contribute to the advancement of postgraduate academic studies in Serbia in the field of space research. The work carried out within this group will, we hope, serve as a foundation and the first steps toward the establishment of a Serbian Space Agency.
